"Author John Eldredge says that: 'Beauty heals the soul.' I tend to think so too. I am a realist, though sensation and atmosphere often play a great role in the expression of the natural forms I depict... wild... free."
Celia Tabitha is a contemporary American oil painter and native of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Her work has been in Vogue as well as magazines of the South Eastern USA. Growing up on a secluded mountainside in Western North Carolina and immersed in the rich Appalachian culture, Celia's art training began very early. The Cradle, [Berthe Morisot, 1872] is perhaps Celia's earliest orientation to Impressionism, with a canvas print of the work hanging over her bed from birth and to this day. Celia's father was born in Paris, and Celia was favored with the opportunity to study in France on several occasions, in childhood and as an adult. Her family placed great value on homesteading, functional craft, dance, and the creative arts. By the age of five, her hands knew how to card wool and spin it into yarn, and sew on her mother's sewing machine. In her early teen years, she cultivated a love for clay — fastening her focus to functional pottery. In the late 90s / early 2000s, Celia embarked on an in-depth study of French Impressionism, particularly the works Claude Monet painted in the latter portion of his life. Soon she would be exploring the techniques of mixing oil paints with gold leaf, and on occasion melting sterling silver into hand-crafted wearable art. Her original works have been featured in several local venues and shows, including: Andrew Charles Gallery [Asheville, NC], Starbucks [Charlotte Street, Asheville, NC], Almaguer Glass Show [Asheville, NC], and The Pillar [Asheville, NC]. Celia holds degrees in art and in design from Appalachian State University. She resides in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina where she continues to create.
